In the main cavern Mr Monkey found out that guides in the 19th century often let visitors climb into the higher chambers without lights, then charged them extra to let them out. Then he watched and listened to a display about lead mining techniques which involved talking mannequins and ended in a cloud of 'smoke' demonstrating fire setting*.
* Fire-setting was a dangerous mining technique involving leaving a fire burning against a rock face overnight, then throwing cold water on it in the morning to splinter the rock.
