Mr Monkey in Portsmouth, 29th August

"He didn't live here for very long at all, but they're very proud of him"

On St. George's Road Mr Monkey paused to admire a small monument erected in 2006 to celebrate the birth of Isembard Kingdom Brunel in 1806. I.K. Brunel was born in Portsmouth while his father Marc was installing machinery to make rigging blocks in the Royal Dockyard. Mr Monkey had a quick look at St. George's Church, built for dockyard workers in 1754. There were two other churches built in the Portsea area, but both were destroyed in the war.

You can read about the church at the St. George's Church, Portsea website.
