Mr Monkey visits Prague Castle, 11th June

"They did like filling in big holes, you know"

Mr Monkey scampered through the Matthias Gate into the Second Courtyard, which is older than the First Courtyard. It was created in 15th century by filling in an earlier moat. In the 18th century buildings in different styles around the courtyard were redesigned harmoniously by Nicolò Pacassi. The courtyard was paved in the 1970s. Mr Monkey looked at the towers of the cathedral looming over the President's Chancellery, admired the Baroque 1686 fountain, bought tickets for some of the parts of the castle that aren't free, and found a gateway into the Third Courtyard.
