Mr Monkey visits the Roman Baths, 2nd June

"It's a fine and slightly scary carving"

Mr Monkey examining a wooden model of the Roman temple complex Mr Monkey looking at the so-called Gorgon face

The Romans built a large temple complex on top of the hot springs of Bath after they defeated Boudicca. Mr Monkey looked at a wooden model of the site, showing the baths (with the round roof) and the temple (sloping roof). Then Mr Monkey spent some time studying the carved face that used to be on the pediment of the temple. They think it's a gorgon but haven't explained why it's a male gorgon. It probably used to be brightly painted.
