Mr Monkey visits Staircase House and the Stockport Story, 10th August

"I'm not sure all those stamps come from Stockport, you know"

Mr Monkey scurried upstairs to see The Making of the Town. He saw a copy of the market charter of Stockport, granted in 1260. Someone lost the original and this is just a copy made in 1530. Mr Monkey studied displays about the market and the mills and cotton and hatting industries of Stockport's past. He was especially interested to see the identifying stamps used to mark the end of a roll of cloth, because he'd never seen them before.
