In the evening, Mr Monkey took advantage of the late opening at the British Museum to see the exhibition Crafting Beauty in Modern Japan. He spent a hour or so examining ceramics, metalwork, textiles, laquerwork, wood, bamboo, glass, foil and dolls, each one made by a craftsman designated as a Living National Treasure by the government of Japan. Photography wasn't allowed, and the catalogue was only in hardback, so Mr Monkey stood in front of the free guide for these pictures.
You can read about the exhibition at the British Museum website.
