Inside the mill, Mr Monkey examined an old Victorian meal sifter which used a sort of big brush and different grades of cloth to sort flour out into different grades. Then he scampered up some stairs, and got his first view of the workings of the mill. The mill itself is Elizabethan, but the machinery is Victorian, with a plate saying it was installed in 1871. Mr Monkey was interested to find that while the cogwheels were made of iron, the teeth were wooden and were relatively easy to replace when they broke.
