Mr Monkey at the Klondike Gold Rush Museum, 5th February

"It's quite a moderate headline, considering what happened next"

Mr Monkey reading a Seattle newpaper about the discovery of gold in the Klondike Mr Monkey looking at books published during the gold rush

Mr Monkey read a copy of the Seattle Daily Times from July 1897 announcing that not only had gold been found in the Klondyke but that the Canadian government had confirmed it. Then he looked at some of the Yukon-related books published during and after the gold rush. He wondered how useful the Official Guide to the Klondyke Country and the Goldfields of Alaska really was, and was interested to see that at the time of the gold rush Americans spelled Klondike with a 'y'.
