Mr Monkey visits the Seattle Underground, 2nd February

"It's an odd place to keep a storefront"

At the bottom of the stairs, Mr Monkey found that he was sort of in a basement, but it was a basement with something very like a sidewalk outside some walls with windows in, which the guide said was the front of a shop. There was also an old toilet. The guide explained that a major problem before the Great Fire of Seattle was that the business area of Seattle was too low and at high tide all the water in the sewage system flowed backwards. Everyone knew that they really needed to make the city higher, but no-one would do anything.
