Mr Monkey in Seattle, 29th January

"A monkey or two might be an improvement, you know"

Mr Monkey stopped outside the Burke museum to inspect their totem poles, which are all replicas of 19th century monuments. The pole on the left is a memorial to a Tsimshian chief; the pole on the right is Haida house front pole with the crests of He Whose Word Is Obeyed and his wife The Sound of Coppers Clanging. The other totem, which Mr Monkey thinks looks a bit like a submarine, is a replica of a Kaigani Haida memorial to the uncle of Moses Koohl-Keet.
