Mr Monkey at the Museum of History and Industry, 29th January

"That's quite a posh desk, that"

Mr Monkey outside the front doors of MOHAI Mr Monkey examining Governor Stevens' desk

Mr Monkey went up to the front door of the museum and scampered in. The first gallery he came to was called This Native Land and was all about the first settlers arriving in the area. Exhibits included this desk from 1850 used by Isaac Ingalls Stevens, the first governor of Washington Territory. There was a replica of the 1855 Point Elliot Treaty with the Indians who were already living there, but Mr Monkey couldn't read the writing properly.

You can read about the museum at the MOHAI website and the text of the treaty at the Tulalip Tribes Natural Resources Department website.
