Mr Monkey visits the China Show at Urbis

"There's a lot of really interesting small print here, you know"

Mr Monkey found an awful lot to read in the Unofficial China section. This was a project, carried out the Underline Office and Urban China Magazine (both headed by Jiang Jun), investigating the ways in which Chinese cities are altered by people who don't bother to ask the authorities first. Mr Monkey read about turning the foundations of abandoned skyscrapers into swimming pools, turning balconies into extra rooms, adding extra stories to a house to get more compensation when the city demolishes it, and making unbreakable buckets out of basketballs.

You can read about Jiang Jun at the People's Architecture website.
